Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing technique used for the eyebrows. Microblading can be used on someone with little to no eyebrows by creating an illusion of a more defined and fuller brow.

How long does Microblading last?

Microblading can last anywhere from 18 to 30+ months. In general, it requires touch-ups once or twice a year depending on your lifestyle, skin type, and retention. Once pigment from the procedure begins to noticeably fade, you'll need to come back for a touch-up. Microblading might fade faster on oily skin individuals.

What are the benefits of Microblading?

Brows are hassle-free and low maintenance (good bye filling them in everyday), gives you a beautiful consistent brow shape, long lasting results but doesn’t last forever, fixes sparse brows, easy solution to regain eyebrow shape, water-proof and sweat-proof and will not rub off… Perfect for the low maintenance girlies, ocean lovers, those who are active, or travel frequently!

Does it hurt?

Most people experience little to no pain during the procedure. Although each person has a different level of pain tolerance, I use two types of effective anesthetics throughout to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. Please note, if you are on your menstrual cycle or ovulating day of appointment, you might be a bit more sensitive to microblading.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure length depends on the client’s needs and brow scenario. Time is estimated anywhere from 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

Why is a 6 week touch up appointment necessary?

A 6 week touch up appointment is necessary because some strokes may fade during the healing process, which is normal! Most clients also like to add more strokes to their brows and go bolder.

How long does the healing process take?

The skin is not considered to be completely healed until after 30 days of a full cycle of skin regeneration, but your procedure areas will appear and feel normal within 15-20 days. I give you a healing kit and you must follow the healing kit rules for 7-10 days, depending on your skin type.

When will I see results?

The results are immediate but you will not see "full or healed" results until 20-30 days after your first appointment. Your strokes might fade and shrink which is why the 6 Week Touch Up Appointment is required and included in the cost of your Initial Microblading Treatment.

What is the difference between Microblading and a Tattoo?

A tattoo, is a dark permanent ink deposited into the dermis, which is the second layer of the skin. This means the tattoo is permanent. Tattoo artist use a machine to perform this procedure; Microblading, on the other hand is a manual technique thank deposits a semi-permanant color into the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. This semi-permanent procedure only lasts 2-5 years. The durations depends on your skin type and how your skin holds the pigment as well as lifestyle.

Are there different color options?

Each client receives a different experience… from brow shape, hair growth pattern, to coloring. The color is usually based on your natural brow hair color, undertones, and can easily be altered to an appropriate shade. If you tint your eyebrows, come in with tinted brows. Be expected to tint your brows while you have your microbladed brows so the colors match!

What is the best eyebrow shape for my face?

This depends on each client. We will map your brows using your facial features and natural brow to figure out the best shape for your face. If you want to extend the tail, we can extend the tail. If you want a dominant arch, we will give you a dominate arch. I will recommend some do’s and don’ts when it comes to your perfect brow shape- it’s different for everyone! We don’t continue with the process until you're satisfied with your shape.

How can I prep my skin for it?

2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:

  • BOTOX: If you regularly get Botox/Dysport, it must be done at least 14 days prior to your appointment. If you’ve had it done within 14 days of your appointment we will need to reschedule.

  • WAXING/THREADING: We recommend coming to your appointment with your brows grown out to see how they grow naturally; we will clean them up for you. If you decide to clean them up before, please do so at least 1-2 weeks prior to your appointment. If you tint your brows, please do so at least 7 days prior.

  • RETIN-A: Please refrain from using any retin-a/retinol products on your face for 2 weeks leading up to your appointment and after.

  • FACIALS/PEELS/LASER: Do not have any harsh facial treatments done within 2 weeks before and after your appointment.

24 HOURS-72 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:

  • ALCOHOL: Please avoid any alcohol.

  • CAFFEINE: Avoid it! We know it’s hard to do.

  • MEDICATIONS: Avoid blood thinning medications 72 hours before your appointment. Consult with your doctor if needed. Common blood thinner medications to avoid are Aspirin, Eliquis, Warfarin, Xarelto, Dabigatran, Heparin, Lovenox, Clopidogrel, Dipyridamole, and others. Common blood thinner supplements to avoid are Ginger, Ginseng, Turmeric, Vitamin E, Garlic, Aloe, Fish oil, Chamomile, and others.

*If any of above are ingested, you will bleed a lot during your appointment making it harder for me to give you your ideal brows. Excessive bleedings increases the risk of infection, skin not holding pigment, and room for error. If you ingest of any of these prior to your appointment, please let me know!

  • DIRECTIONS: Please be sure to map directions to our studio. We have a strict 15-minute late policy, so please plan ahead to make sure you know how long the commute to the studio takes, and plan for traffic if appropriate. Please be respectful of our time the same as we are respectful of yours and let me know if you’ll be late!

DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT:

  • SHOWER: I recommend washing your hair the night before or morning of your appointment. This will give you a head start and help in the healing process so you won’t have to shower right after having your brows done. You will need to avoid water for 7-10 days after- including excessive sweating, pools, lakes, salt water, and extreme sun exposure, so plan your vacations accordingly!

  • EXERCISE: Avoid exercise right before coming to your appointment, exercising increases blood flow and will cause excessive bleeding, leading to poor healed results.

  • MAKEUP: Please come with your brow makeup on! This helps me to see your regular and preferred shape and color. Please note that we also take before and after photos during your appointment.

What if my skin is oily- is Microblading for all skin types?

If you have oily skin, you can still get microblading done but the lines might blur out a bit more due to your oil production. This may cause strokes to fade quicker. Oily skin types need to pay extra attention to the aftercare instructions.

Can I still get Microblading if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

I do not recommend getting microblading done if you are pregnant. If you are breastfeeding- this is up to you! I recommend waiting 2 weeks post-breastfeeding or consult with your pediatrician.

When should you not get Microblading?

  • Pregnant

  • Are currently using Accutane or have used Accutane within the last year

  • Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face

  • Are on blood thinning medications or antibiotics

  • Have Rosacea or acne in the brow area

  • Are currently undergoing cancer treatment

  • Must be off Chemo or Radiation for 6 months

Will I receive a healing kit?

Yes! You will be given a kit that includes all things to heal your new loved brows.

What is your experience with Microblading?

I entered the microblading world when I first got my brows done in 2020- and it changing my life!

After graduating UC Santa Cruz with my Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Arts, I knew I’d have a career in a creative field. End of 2021, I did my research in the permanent make-up industry and got certified at Seduire Academy for microblading in February 2022. I spent 2022 designing and building Well Brow and currently rent a chair in San Clemente. I still get my eyebrows touched up every year, and am lucky enough to have a few permanent make-up mentors!

Alongside microblading, I am also a graphic designer and social media manager for small businesses.

I look forward to meeting you!
